ATLANTA GOLF GUIDE.
Where to play. What it costs. Where to live.
Explore Atlanta’s public golf courses, private clubs, green fees, and the North Atlanta communities around them.

Atlanta has two golf markets at once: storied private clubs with membership-controlled access, and public courses ranging from inexpensive city layouts to higher-end daily-fee experiences. The best choice depends on how often you play, where you live, what you want to spend, and whether club amenities matter as much as the golf.

Public golf rates: what to budget
Public does not automatically mean inexpensive, and private does not necessarily mean residential-community membership. City-operated golf is often the clearest starting point for verified green fees; resort-style, semi-private and daily-fee courses typically have dynamic pricing. The figures below are published operator rates, not a statistically meaningful average across all Atlanta courses.
| Course | Access | Published standard price |
|---|---|---|
| Candler Park | Public, 9 holes | $9-$13 regular green fee; resident status and day affect rate |
| Chastain Park | Public, 18 holes | $23.50-$32 regular green fee; optional riding cart $13.50/person |
| Bobby Jones | Public, reversible 9-hole layout | Live tee time rate required |
| Cobblestone | Public | Live tee time rate required |
| Echelon | Semi-private; public tee times offered | Live tee time rate required |

Can you play a private course without joining?
Usually a private course requires membership, an eligible guest invitation, an approved outing or another club-authorized arrangement. Do not assume that owning a home in a golf neighborhood includes golf membership, tee times or a transferable membership.
Best Atlanta areas for a golf-centered lifestyle
- Alpharetta — Golf Club of Georgia, Windward and golf options along the GA-400 corridor.
- Johns Creek — Atlanta Athletic Club and Country Club of the South.
- Milton — White Columns and North Fulton golf-club communities.
- Roswell — private-club options and a variety of home styles.
- East Cobb — Atlanta Country Club and nearby residential neighborhoods.
Compare homes near Atlanta golf clubs
A good golf-area home search should look at more than a course on the map: confirm whether the property is on the course, whether club membership is separate, whether there are additional community dues, the deed restrictions, and the daily routes that matter to you. Golf-club access and real estate ownership are different contracts.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
Atlanta Golf: Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers on Atlanta golf course rankings, public tee times, green fees, private memberships, and golf-community homes.
What are the best golf courses in Atlanta?
For highly ranked private golf, start with Peachtree Golf Club, East Lake Golf Club, Atlanta Athletic Club’s Highlands Course, and Atlanta Country Club. Golf Digest’s 2025–26 Georgia ranking places them at Nos. 2, 4, 6, and 7 respectively. A course ranking is not a ranking of membership affordability or family amenities.
Where can I play public golf in Atlanta?
Public tee-time options in this guide include Chastain Park, Candler Park, Bobby Jones, Cobblestone in Acworth, and semi-private Echelon in Alpharetta. Check the operator’s website for opening times, rates, and available tee times.
How much does it cost to play public golf in Atlanta?
The City of Atlanta publishes regular green fees of $9–$13 for nine-hole Candler Park and $23.50–$32 for Chastain Park, depending on residency and day. Chastain’s riding cart costs extra. These are examples, not a fixed metropolitan average, and they may change.
What is the cheapest public golf option listed here?
Among the published standard rates used in this guide, Candler Park offers a $9 regular resident green fee Monday through Thursday for nine holes. Residency rules and the latest rates should be confirmed before booking.
What is the average green fee in Atlanta?
There is no reliable metro-wide green-fee average established in this guide. Nine-hole city courses and premium daily-fee courses are not directly comparable; rates also depend on weekday, resident status, cart inclusion, and demand.
How much does it cost to join a private golf club in Atlanta?
Many private clubs do not publish full-golf initiation fees and monthly dues. Ask each club for written current membership categories, initiation fees, dues, food minimums, assessments, cart fees, guest privileges, and availability. This guide does not treat internet estimates as confirmed prices.
Can nonmembers play Atlanta’s private golf courses?
Usually only with a club-approved arrangement, such as an invitation from an eligible member or a qualifying outing. Private clubs should not be treated as open public tee-time facilities. Contact the club before making plans.
Which private golf clubs are near Alpharetta, Johns Creek, and Milton?
The Golf Club of Georgia is in Alpharetta; Atlanta Athletic Club and Country Club of the South are in Johns Creek; and White Columns Country Club is in Milton. Membership terms, access rights, and locations should be evaluated separately.
Are all Atlanta golf courses 18 holes?
No. Candler Park is a nine-hole course, and Bobby Jones Golf Course uses a reversible nine-hole design. Several other listed courses are traditional 18-hole layouts, while some private clubs have more than one course. Compare the length and format when reviewing prices.
Does buying a home in a golf community include club membership?
Not necessarily. Homeownership, an HOA membership, and membership in a private golf club are often separate arrangements. Before buying, review HOA documents and obtain golf membership privileges and charges directly from the club in writing.
What are popular North Atlanta areas for golf-course homes?
Golf-centered home searches often start in Windward and other Alpharetta neighborhoods, Country Club of the South in Johns Creek, White Columns in Milton, and East Cobb near Atlanta Country Club. Proximity to a course does not necessarily mean a home is golf-front or membership-eligible.
What should I check before buying a house on a golf course?
Confirm the property’s actual course frontage, recorded easements, golf-ball exposure, cart-path traffic, privacy, drainage, HOA dues, club charges, and club access rights. A course view and guaranteed ability to play are not the same thing.
Where can I see course maps and individual golf club profiles?
Use the searchable Golf Course Finder higher on this page. It has 12 profiles, location and access filters, a map for each listed course, and links to directions. For booking or joining, verify with the individual course operator.
Can Cary Blumenfeld help me find homes near Atlanta golf clubs?
Yes. The Blumenfeld Group can help compare neighborhoods, available homes, HOAs, and location tradeoffs in North Atlanta. Golf access and membership availability must still be confirmed directly with the relevant club.
