If you’ve been waiting for Pickle & Social to open near Haynes Bridge Road and GA-400 in Alpharetta, there has been a major change.
It is not coming.
The 6.25-acre property at the northeast corner of Haynes Bridge Road and Rock Mill Road, beside GA-400, had previously been approved for a Pickle & Social entertainment complex with indoor and outdoor pickleball and a freestanding restaurant.
But during the Alpharetta City Council meeting on July 20, 2026, the property owner confirmed that the Pickle & Social concept would no longer move forward.
Why the pickleball project changed
The most interesting part of the story is why.
According to the applicant’s presentation to Alpharetta City Council, the growth in local pickleball facilities changed the economics of the project. The applicant said the supply of pickleball courts in the area had grown beyond what the market currently demanded.
Onelife Fitness is taking its place
Alpharetta City Council unanimously approved a replacement plan for a two-story, approximately 55,000-square-foot Onelife Fitness on the site.
Information presented to City Council described Onelife facilities as potentially including fitness equipment, training programs, sports courts, pools, saunas, whirlpools, hydro-massage, childcare and locker rooms.
The Alpharetta proposal still keeps pickleball in the plan. Four pickleball courts remain as part of the new development.
The applicant also anticipates approximately 75 to 100 employees and proposed operating hours of 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Access to the development would come from Rock Mill Road rather than Haynes Bridge Road.
Why this location matters
This is not an obscure parcel. The property sits beside the GA-400 interchange at Haynes Bridge Road in the North Point area, where one of Alpharetta’s largest redevelopment stories is already unfolding.
That makes the pivot from a destination pickleball concept to a large fitness club more than a tenant change. It is another example of developers recalibrating what they believe this part of Alpharetta can support as the North Point area evolves.
The strange part: Pickle & Social still says “Coming Soon”
As of September 7, 2026, Pickle & Social’s own website still identifies Alpharetta as a “Coming Soon” location and references an anticipated 2026 opening at the northeast corner of Rock Mill Road, Haynes Bridge Road and GA-400.
That consumer-facing page no longer matches the development action taken by Alpharetta City Council in July.
The bigger North Fulton takeaway
Only a short time ago, pickleball facilities were being proposed aggressively across metro Atlanta. In this case, the applicant concluded that enough supply had entered the market to justify changing an already-approved project before construction.
That is the real story here.
Pickleball is not disappearing from the site, but the original destination concept is. A broader fitness use is taking its place, and the change gives us a small but useful window into how quickly local development assumptions can shift.
